Natural Bug Spray

Summer bugs have arrived, but fear not! I’ve mixed together a magical homemade spray with 3 simple ingredients to keep your microbiome safe and your skin happy.

As a newly dedicated alchemist, I tested my miracle insect repellentΒ in Charleston – certain that the 90-degree weather would attract unwanted critters. After diligently spraying my legs and reapplying as needed, I was delighted to discover that I hadn’t been bitten once.

Later that afternoon, while strolling around the grounds of the Magnolia Plantation, I began to notice that several domesticated deer were tentatively following me. When I stopped to let them approach, they immediately began licking my legs, clearly enchanted by the delicious apple cider vinegar concoction that was passing as my bug repellent. As long as you don’t mind being friendly with local wildlife, I highly recommend this spray to keep unwanted pests away.

Natural Bug Spray:

  • 2 teaspoons fresh parsley, chopped
  • 1 cup organic apple cider vinegar, with the mother
  • 5 drops 100% pure geranium essential oil (masks vinegar scent and wards off ticks)

  • Blender
  • Mesh strainer
  • Spray bottle

In a high-powered blender, mix the apple cider vinegar and parsley together until thoroughly incorporated. Add the essential oil.

Pour the concoction through a fine sieve/mess strainer, collecting the liquid in a bowl below. Discard the parsley. Pour the mixture into a spray bottle and store in the refrigerator.

Shake before using the repellent.
