Find my paleo recipe in my bio link or on AlyssaDougherty.com! Bone broth is my nourishing base-of-choice in this recipe because it's easy to digest, helps to heal an inflamed gut, and has immune-boosting properties. While bone broth isn't a rich-source of calcium, it offers collagen and minerals that are just as important for maintaining joint and bone health. Look for brands such as @kettleandfire Chicken Bone Broth which use only organic ingredients (no emulsifiers or "natural" flavors), and include apple cider vinegar (which can help to draw out bone gelatin during the cooking process), enhancing the broth's overall benefits and richness. ✨

As I was watching the magnificent king tide waves As I was watching the magnificent king tide waves this morning (with dolphins playing), I experienced the very unique tranquility I always feel when I’m close to moving water. When I’m away from my beautiful Carmel sea that I’ve spent my life observing, I find a similar calmness when using the “peace begins with me” affirmation using mudras (hand gestures). As a certified meditation teacher, I want to share the basics of this simple practice with you today. Using both hands, touch your thumbs and index fingers together, saying "peace" as you do this (quietly or silently). Touch your thumbs and third fingers together, saying "begins". Touch your thumbs and fourth fingers together, saying "with". Touch your thumbs and little fingers together, saying "me". Repeat for at least one minute, noticing any subtle shifts that take place in your body pre and post practice.
I PASSED MY NUTRITION BOARD EXAM! 🥳 Pictured is I PASSED MY NUTRITION BOARD EXAM! 🥳 Pictured is a photo of me from a few years back, when I had just left my career in politics/foreign policy and was beginning to pursue my advanced degree in clinical nutrition. Over 10 years ago I received the first of many life-altering health diagnoses, and after countless doctors, surgeries and searching, I finally discovered the world of functional nutrition, integrative medicine, herbalism and healing modalities like meditation. While my passion for gut health is a result of years of chronic illness (I still have to work very hard to maintain my health) it was my return to grad school that solidified the evidence-based, clinical nutritional practices I implement today. I graduated with my masters degree last year, studied like crazy to ace my exam, and have been working to complete my 1,000 hours of clinical work to officially obtain my Certified Nutrition Specialist title. I’ll be taking on new clients in coming weeks, so stay tuned for more information, and remember it’s never too late to embrace your calling in life! ✨
