Apple Grapefruit Cider

This warming cider, fragrant with infused grapefruit, cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves, offers a gentle detox for the liver and gallbladder, while reducing inflammation in the body through powerful antioxidants.

  • 30 ounces of fresh pink lady apple juice (approximately 12 small apples or 8 large apples)
  • 1 organic grapefruit
  • 3 cinnamon sticks (extra for serving)
  • 1/4 teaspoon organic allspice

  • Juicer
  • Spoon or strainer
  • Saucepan

Use a juicer to extract the apple juice, following manufacturer guidelines. As you juice, thick froth will start to collect at the top of the liquid. Rather than mixing it in, remove as much as you can with a spoon. Consider also straining your juice to keep too much fiber from filtering in.

Wash, then slice the grapefruit into thin rounds.

Place the extracted juice, grapefruit slices, cinnamon sticks and allspice in a saucepan on the stove.

Set the heat to low, letting the concoction slowly cook for about 30 minutes. The liquid should never simmer, only steam.

Serve hot with additional cinnamon sticks or grapefruit slice for garnish.
